October Birthday

Hey Bunny,
Your 2nd cosmic birthday past about a week ago (10/14).  We're still missing you an awful lot.  Winter is coming.  The Fall has been beautiful, but short.  At least I think so--it snowed a tentative amount today and it IS cold, but the next few days are supposed to warm up to 60.   Who can figure it out? 
We're pretty OK in Sandgate.  We had some art shows in the schoolhouse.  The Mears place is getting fixed up.  Mr. Mears died and rumor has it that he gave the place to his caretakers.  So, it looks different when you drive out of town now.  And coming into town, there were 3 big trees that stood before Willy Lomberg's place which were cut down--gosh it looks so different.  Those trees used to hold the ground down (visually) and now you almost feel like you (and the house) could fly off the road.   That yellow house is perched on a pretty steep hill.  I wonder if I'll ever get used to seeing it this way.  Guess I'm getting old.
The last news is that the phone company is promising that high speed everything is coming to Sandgate by Christmas!  Should we believe?

Bunny's Memorial Sunday May 23rd 2010 at Jayne's

Dear Bunny,
I was just thinking of you and wanted to let you know that it was a wonderful memorial party at the Dome!  If any pictures surface, I'd be happy to post them.  Annie showed her video.  It was really good to see everyone.  It was great of Jayne to carry on your tradition of bringing us together.  We'll keep on.

Miss you.  Wish you you were here to see Jayne's up-side-down humming birds.

Goodbye, Bunny

Wanted to let you all know that Bunny passed away tonight, May 18, at about 6 pm. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no memorial or funeral service. Instead of flowers, please make donations to the Lothar Wuerslin Scholarship Fund.

To all of her friends who helped her: many, many thanks - she (and we) appreciated it more than can be expressed. She was blessed with a wonderful circle of friends. Namaste to you all.

this is logan again. i just wanted to say goodbye and goodluck and thank you to Nana Bunny. I'm sure we can all agree she was a big part of our lives, one that, once emptied, can be patched but never refilled. to all that aided her, i thank you for enriching her life, as she did to ours. Love you, Nana. see you in a later life.

Grandma Bunny

okay, this is logan. I'm using my mom's account becuase I can't seem to become a contributor to bunny's friends. Having to deal with my grandma's slow demise is one of the worst experiences I have been through. having to see her lie in her hospital bed slowly starving is traumatic and most of all, very sad. once I lose her, I don't know what I'll do. I still am not used to the absence of her songs or whistling around the house, one of the things I will miss about her the most. I only hope she can move on to a better place, and not have to suffer. I just hope she can see that tree peonie bloom before she dies. Hope to see you in another life, Nana. I love you very much. signed, your loving grandson, Logan Winter Wuerslin.

Well, dog my cats, it's May Day! Let's say good-bye to the cruellest month, tho' April is always fun in Sandgate. Our last April party on Saturday the 25th, at Jayne's, was a wonderful gathering. So many friends! So much good food! I forgot how much fun it is to drink Mimosas and talk that easy talk with the wonderful women I know. How strong we are, like tea bags. (you had to have been there to get that one) How soft we are! How much we share...and love.

Sensational Turnout at Northshire's Author's Talk

It was a who's who of the Sandgate Literari on the evening of Saturday, April 4th. One would have thought that the April snowstorm outside would have kept attendance quite low.
The seats were filled to capacity proving once again that the artists, craftspeople and writers of Sandgate are impervious to the weather. Most of the audience already had copies of "In the Child's Voice" by Ann B. Wuerslin, MA, MSW, fondly known to us as 'Bunny'.
The Northshire Emcee, Chris, introduced the evening. Mallory spoke and read eloquently. Bunny took the podium and fielded all questions with intellect and sensitivity. When all was said and done the audience was well rewarded this evening for their journey through the snowstorm.

to support me at Northshire. Has anybody ever had kinder friends than I?

NORTHERN ATTITUDE

My brain is too numb with cold to remember from whom I learned this little ditty. Perhaps it was Dr. Seuss's book of terrible tongue twisters. I think that it can be sung as a round...

Right now, at my house it is snowing big time! I checked the thermometer on the deck and it's reading 37 degrees. Isn't it too warm to snow? I think I'm having a cabin fever relapse! HELP!

March 14th Dinner with Friends

Bunny came over tonight with Georgia and Joey  - we had a nice dinner and now trying to figure out how to comment on this darn blog. Maybe will this work - spring is on the way and we all look forward to more light and warmth - love to you

It's time to start dreaming of spring. We've turned the clocks ahead. Town meeting is a memory. The roads have begun to get a little muddier. Much of the snow is melting, though March won't let us escape without a few more snow falls. My neighbor used to call these light snows 'poor man's car wash'.

The maple tree tappers are busy already. We just got our first gallon of this year's maple syrup from a Sandgate neighbor. This is the just the weather they love, warming days and cold nights. They say it makes the sap run.

Sandgate Election Results

According to this morning's Bennington Banner:

Wednesday, March 4

SANDGATE — Sarah Geannelis was elected delinquent tax collector in Sandgate, defeating Eric Weissleder by a single vote, 36 to 35.

The following people were elected to town offices: Rick Dahm, elected town and school moderator and constable; Donald Trachte, select board, Charles Bentley Jr., select board; Tom Fierravanti, select board; Judy Boehlert, select board; Erica Lin, treasurer, Marlene Roderick, town clerk; Sonja Jaffee, auditor and cemetery commissioner; Jane Gattlin, lister; Jean Eisenhart, town agent and grand juror; John LeMay, school board.

Voters decided to lower the proposed general town budget of $144,559 by $23,000. The highway budget was left untouched at $330,695, as was the school budget of $819,748. All other ballot articles passed.

MARCH COMES IN LIKE A LION

Oh no, more snow! The weather people are predicting a big nasty snowy windy storm for Monday March 2nd. So, stoke those fires and batten down the hatches and whatever you do, don't throw away your Yaks Traks and snow boots for another week or two.

Perhaps it will miss us the way that ugly ice storm did. The weather people don't mind being wrong about their predictions. Sandgate folks always hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

NEWS TO CHASE THE BLUES - FEBRUARY'S END IS IN SIGHT

Everybody's back from the mid-winter break.

I hear that Northshire Bookstore is having a book signing evening and Bunny is one of their featured writers! Save April 4th and join the Sandgate literari at this wonderful event.

Kudos to the moviegoers of Sandgate who had the cinema smarts to pick SlumDog Millionaire as the year's best picture. Apparently, the Academy agreed with us.

They say that young people in the great State of Vermont are an endangered species. Not so in Sandgate! There were many children and their parents spotted on Tudor Road at the 2nd Annual Sledding Party. They were doing what we Bunny style Sandgaters used to do, fire up the sauna and the barbecue, and watch our children happily sledding down the hill.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY

It is a beautiful morning in Sandgate. The air is crisp. The sky is blue. The birds are flying to their feeders and my thoughts are flying to Bunny in Arizona. I'm wondering what Valentine's Day looks like there.

Counting

It is always a new day when my brain deletes recent but not consistently used information. Like where in my computer I have put what. I am better by rote. Bunny counts, as I count, what we have or are doing, stitches, logs stacked or loaded in the basement wood bin, out of state license plates on the Thruway.  She once told me, upon arrival for a party, that she counted the steps to my house, deep in the woods, 1500. The walk in the woods was so boring, counting was the only way to compliment the effort. Amazed I was, that someone would not like a walk in the woods, but then very few people visited, it was far from where one could park. Lately I have been yo-yoing in and out of the city via the Thruway, counting out-of- state license plates, thinking of spying them with Bunny riding shot-gun in my mind's eye game, counting and re-counting in a rhythm to remember the list to share with her, laughing, at some future time, as counting in the moment is the only way to compliment the 2 & 1/2 hours on that road. Touring the USA and Canada by foreign plates, the core, NY, NJ, PA,CONN, and Quebec, New England would be MA, RI, NH, Maine and VT, but not my car, there has to be another VT car to count, S Carolina, VA, FL, TENN, and then IL &  Wisconsin! orange with black letters! 16 cars dedicated to Bunny! One of my best days. Lately, dirt and road salt covers the plates and I cannot tell the really exotic ones traveling 75+ mph. Game over, what shall I count? Back to dividing mile markers by travel time? Always scanning for police and changes in the landscape, the goal up to Vermont or down to the city, when will I see you again?

In beautiful downtown Sandgate the Bunny buzz from yesterday's lunch meet is all about the best movies to see...like Slum Dog Millionaire...and the prettiest disappointments...like The Curious Case of Benjamin Button...
AND where to go to see films these days...The Village Picture Show in Manchester is showing
Milk (a good Sean Penn movie) and The Reader which is supposed to great! Kate Winslet is said to have done an academy award performance! The skinny from the lunch crowd on the Academy is that they are SOOOO in love with Brangelina that the awards will probably go to Brad for Benjamin Button (humph!).
The best news is that the newly owned and operated Village Picture Show Theater in Manchester is warm and has a 4PM Matinee for 5 bucks!
Could you ask for more in February?
